Abby M Taylor Fine Art LLC is a dealer in investment quality American and European paintings, sculpture, works on paper and photography from the 19th century to the present. Most of the inventory is owned by the gallery and we stand behind anything represented at the gallery as being exceptional or of a particular merit.

Abby Taylor was a partner at The Greenwich Gallery from 1989 to 2006 and then opened solely as Abby M Taylor Fine Art LLC in 2006. In 2002, Abby grew a sculpture division devoted to museum quality works.

The strength of the gallery has been its client relationships and we are pleased to have one of the largest and most international client bases in the world. We strive to create a vibrant gallery atmosphere of carefully edited and selected works in which to comfortably make informed acquisitions of art.

Guarantee

All works of art are guaranteed by the gallery to be authentic and as represented by the gallery.

Payment policies

All invoices and purchases must be paid for within 5 business days from receipt of invoice. All work must be paid for prior to shipping. The gallery will hold and return funds immediately if a work is not approved and is returned to the gallery.

Credit Card Payments

The gallery does not necessarily accept credit card payments for purchases. Credit card payments are not always accepted on negotiated purchases although they are always accepted on works purchased at full price.

Selling to us

Please provide an image of the front and back of the work, the name of the artist, size and medium, where it is signed and the provenance and price being asked. The gallery prefers that seller’s provide a price for the work they wish to sell. The gallery does not make standing offers. If the gallery agrees to make an offer, the seller must be in a position to immediately respond to the offer. The gallery reserves the right to receive the work before making payment. The cost and responsibility of delivery to the gallery is born by the seller.

Consignment

The gallery takes works for consignment on a very discriminating basis. The gallery sets up consignments on either a percentage basis (usually 15 % and 30 % to the gallery, dictated by price level of the work being sold) or a net basis to the owner. We suggest that it is realistic to set up a six month consignment period. We do not necessarily insure all works on consignment as this is a negotiated and discussed arrangement.

The Gallery does not purchase the following

Prints, limited edition prints, lithographs, etchings and most posthumous bronzes. The gallery does not represent living artists so we do not accept submissions of portfolios or works by artists and if these materials are sent to the gallery they will not be returned and we are not responsible for them. When the gallery has the work of a living artist, it has often been purchased through the secondary market as we are a secondary market gallery.

Appraisals

The gallery does appraisals on a highly discretionary basis. The gallery does not give verbal appraisals or values. Written appraisal fees start at $265.00 per work and increase based on travel time, authentication work etc. The gallery provides a free insurance appraisal when it sells a work as a service to its clients.

Hanging and Installation fees and policies

The gallery will often hang works of art it sells or install a sculpture free of charge. However, this is a discretionary service and all hanging and installations are subject to our hanging and installation fees. The gallery’s staff are not professional hangers and if the situation presents a challenge the gallery may advise or arrange for one to be paid for by the client. The gallery will not hang additional works of art free of charge.
Our standard hanging and installation fee is $75.00 an hour with a minimum of a one hour charge. If a separate trip is required for a staff member to hang or install a work from when it was originally delivered, there will be a minimum of $75.00 plus the delivery fee as outlined in our buying from us policies. We are not responsible if at some future date a work falls off the wall for any reason.

Advisory Fees

Advisory services are available to clients wishing to buy at auction or to broker, negotiate, advise and transact purchases from other sources. Fees are always pre-negotiated but some standard fees are outlined below:
Advisory fees for auction:

  • 10% of hammer price on works under $20,000
  • 5% of the hammer price $20,000 and over
  • 3% on works over $100,000
  • $500,000 and up to be negotiated

There is a flat advisory fee in the event a client does not succeed in purchasing. This is a pre-negotiated fee and can range from $250 to $1,500 depending on travel time to the auction, research and amount of works seriously looked into and bid on. Advisory services include consulting on the quality of the work, condition, framing advice, market analysis on price and values. The gallery will execute the purchase or bid process and oversee delivery, framing, restoration and any other services the work may require.

Gallery’s mission statement

For client’s to appreciate, enjoy and see the value in making private purchases.

Trade-ins

The gallery will often allow a client to trade a work they have purchased from our inventory toward another purchase. We have a STRICT POLICY that we credit the price paid for the work against the retail price of the work they wish to acquire. This consideration is given on works originally owned by the gallery toward works owned by the gallery. Works purchased through advisory services or that have been or are currently on consignment may not necessarily be eligible for this policy.

Reselling works purchased from us

The gallery will resell a work for a client if they originally purchased it from us; please refer to our consignment policies. We try at the very least to net back to the owner what their original investment was in the work, netting more or less is dependent upon market conditions.
